About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Does this qualify for 144h visa free in Shanghai?

Would a flight from Milan to Xiamen (and then off to Taipei) with layovers in Bruxelles and Beijing qualify for a 144h visa free in Xiamen knowing that I'm flying from Milan to Xiamen with the same company and that during the layovers I wouldn't leave the airport?

No. Two stops in China limits you to 24 hours transit without visa.

But isn't Taipei subject to a whole different visa regime ? after all it isn't China immigration authorities that will let me through Taiwan, it is Taiwan's, and for Taiwan no kind of visa is required anyway.

So even if I stay inside the airport in Beijing it's still considered as a stop in China?

It the airplane lands it counts as a stop. Even if you don't leave the plane the second landing means 24 hour transit only
