About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Can I travel to Guangzhou from HK by air and return to Hong Kong by train with the 72 hr visa?

72 hour visa doesn’t exist. 72 hours transit without visa exists but Hong Kong to Guangzhou to Hong Kong isn’t even a transit. And you can’t travel by rail. So you plan fails on at least two points.
