About:Visa on Arrival

Hi I have a German citizen traveling to Hong Kong but will be in Shenzhen for 1 full day.

Do I need to apply for a normal Chinese visa? Or is there another type we can do since he will only be in mainland for one day.

No, you don't need to apply for the normal Chinese visa in advance in your country. You can get a visa on arrival in SZ.
