About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Eligibility for 144hr visa free transit

I plan to travel from Los Angeles to Shanghai, stop 5 nights, then flight Shanghai to Brisbane, all on Australian passport.
I will be there less than 144 hours - land 11Dec at 4pm depart 16Dec at 9pm.

My question is, I am not planning to stay in Shanghai, I will drive to Hangzhou and stay the 5 nights in Hangzhou.
Do I still qualify for 144hr free transit? I'm not sure if leaving Shanghai is relevant or not?

Hangzhou is part of the Shanghai transit area. You can stay in Hangzhou. You can fly in to Shanghai and fly out of Hangzhou airport if you want to
