Can airline staff with CN visa transit PVG eventhough onward tkt is standby?

I am arriving AA staff DFW PVG connecting with ZED ticket (staff standby ticket) on Thai Airways. Is there a TG position for intransit or do I go thru customs / immigration exit to Thai check-in for PVG BKK? Please note, I have a CN visa so if for an unforeseen reason I was not boarded on Thai I already have a hotel booked for an overnight stay. Is there a problem with entering China and exiting same day or next day?
