About:Overstaying in China & Penalty

2nd overstay in China -What are my chances of applying and getting a new Chinese Visa in HK or Macao

So over 1 year ago I overstayed my 60 day visa. I was new in country and like a complete moron I confused the 90 day HK slip they provide while entering the mainland via hk as my departure. I overstayed by 4 days and was fined.

Fast forward 1 year and this time I simply dropped the ball and missed my departure date by 1 day due to a miscalculation.

I just left the Dept of Exit-Entry in Luohu and they fined me again and canceled my 10 year entry permit. They will provide me within the next week an exit permit valid for 10 days.

My question is, has anyone had success in securing a new visa back into the mainland via HK after a 2nd strike. Both overstays were relatively minor and Ive read that the first if under 10 days is usually just a warning. This didn't happen on my end.

I am a US citizen, have had no trouble in China (other than these two idiotic mistakes on my part) nor do I work here on any level.

Is there anything I can do or am I out of luck trying to secure a new visa in HK or Macao?

Must I return to the US to apply?

Looking for ppl or friends of friends who may have had a similar issue. Success or failures.
Really hate to think my lack of attention to detail just fckd up my chances on revisiting one of my favorite countries in the world
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Your chance of receiving a visa currently is slim and they probably won't be giving you a multi-entry one ever (you did not mention if there's a ban on you). Also keep in mind that immigration will have your records if you've been fingerprinted, so don't lie on the application just to get a visa so they can strip search you at the border later. Most Americans/Canadians/Argentines/Israelis/Brazilians usually leave days before their duration of stay is up to avoid this situation.

Thank you for your response. There was no mention of a ban, I will follow up and ask once I pick up my passport from the Dept of Exit/Entry. Yes I am usually in and out and never stay even close to the allotted time. I lost track (which is no excuse) and now will suffer the consequences. I do not plan on lying while resubmitting. Was just hoping to find some positive feedback or experiences. I spoke to a Cuban Citizen who over-stayed twice for much longer periods than I did. He went back to his country, reapplied and was back in China in 3 weeks.
