Bangkok to Shanghai to Hong Kong to Bangkok, will i qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.

depends on your passport. Thai passport cannot do transit without visa. If one of the 53 eligible passports that is good routing as long as there are no other cities you don't mention as for example Hong Kong > Shanghai > Hong Kong even if staying in the airport is not allowed.
