About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 / 144h free transit possible?

Hi, I'm a danish citizen Flying into Shanghai from Tokyo, then 12hrs later, I'll be flying from Shanghai to Kathmandu - with a transit in Kunming for 4 hours. The flights are all booked as one ticket - so it's not like I'll have to leave the transit area in Kunming while transitting.

Only 24 hour transit without visa is allowed when you have multiple stops in China. You don't need a visa if it's less than 24 hours from your scheduled arrival in Shanghai to scheduled departure from Kunming.

Yea, but only if you stay in transit, not if you intend to stay in a hotel for 12hrs out side the transit area... right ?

Whether you can leave the airport or not is at the discretion of the immigration officer.
