Transit ?Visa Sea-Pek-Dps (12 hour layover) PEK ? Then return DPS-PEK-SEA (6 hour layover on return

Will we need a transit visa if we are planning on staying in airport or go to a hotel? Or if we got to claim luggage and recheck it
Also USA passport

No, you don’t need a visa for you can apply for a 24h stay permit upon arriving at PEK. You need to claim the luggage when leaving the airport.
