I have a business letter, not parcel, sent from UK to China. Does it go through customs? How long?

Will letters go through customs? I know this can slow things down a lot. How long should it take. It is sent by Royal post. Just letter in envelope. royal post says 7 to 13 days

All things need to go through customs, but the letters won’t be open normally. As for the time, you should consult with the post office, and generally speaking, it takes 10 days.
