About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Bangkok - beijing - bangkok

and onward flight from bkk to malaysia - but from another airport. I guess that doesn't count! does it?

if not, is there anything i can do to get the 144 rule? i'm an austrian citizen.

You’re right, it doesn’t count. You’d have to change your flights or add in a side-trip from Beijing (eg to Hong Kong or Korea). Or get a visa.
