About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling to Amsterdam with overnight in Shanghai

Hello,

We are traveling to Amsterdam from Sydney and have an overnight stop over in Shanghai.
We are all traveling on Australian passports.
Will we need a visa to leave the airport? We want to book a hotel for the night.

Thank you for your help.

Leaving the airport without a visa for a layover under 24 hours is at the immigration officer's discretion. Some reported that bringing a hotel reservation will help. So if you have hotel reservation, you can give it a try.
