About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transiting at Shanghai Pudong on separate airline tickets

I plan to transit at Shanghai Pudong in November using two separate airline tickets. 1) Madrid/ Shanghai Pudong & then Shanghai Pudong/Auckland. The two flights are paid for and ticketed separately - both are confirmed with confirmed seats.

This means I will need to enter China, collect my luggage, catch a few hours sleep in a airport hotel room (if possible) and then proceed to departures to check-in for the second flight.

I am travelling on a Spanish passport.

Can you please confirm that I am eligible for either a 72 hour or 144 hour transit visa that I can apply for on arrival?

I require confirmation as there are forums on other websites saying that as of late Chinese immigration has been refusing entry to passengers in this situation.

You are eligible for free transit policy in Shanghai, and you can apply for on arrival. Don't worry.
