About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA -> Shanghai -> Tokyo

Going to have a 16 hour layover in Shanghai before moving on to Tokyo. Is the 24 hour transit going to suffice or should we apply for the 72 hour transit?

You don’t get a choice. You should be granted 24 hours transit without visa.
