About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying from USA with layover in Hong Kong Cruising from Shanghai, is 144 hour Transit Visa ok?

Hello, flying from the USA and have a layover in Hong Kong for 2 hours before arriving in Shanghai, stay in SH for 3 nights, then leave on cruise 8 nights for Japan that has no other Chinese ports and then depart Shanghai the same day the cruise returns to Shanghai, from there I fly direct to Vietnam, will a 144 free transit be ok?

Note: Hong Kong is considered as another country instead of a territory of China.
