About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Canada -> China -> Japan -> China -> Canada

I have a single entry visa for China and have been here for one month. I would like to stay in Japan for a few weeks. After Japan I would fly back to shanghai and get my luggage from Yangzhou and then return to shanghai airport (all within 72 hours) to fly back to Canada. Is this possible?

Yes you can visit Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas on a 144 hour transit without visa on the way back from Japan. As long as your flights do not stop anywhere else in China.
