About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying into Hong Kong

Hello,
I am flying from Vancouver to Hong Kong, and planning to do a short 2 day stint in Shanghai afterwords before leaving China. (Vancouver -> Hong Kong-> Shanghai-> Tokyo) However my flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong requires a 4hr layover in Beijing for a connecting flight. Will I still be eligible for the 144hr free transit as there are no direct Vancouver to Hong Kong flights without connecting flight stop and I won't be leaving the airport.

You're flying Vancouver - Beijing (24h direct transit) - Hong Kong and Hong Kong - Shanghai (144h twov) - Tokyo so you're fine.
