About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 Hour Rule eligibility

I have a US passport. I will be flying from Hong Kong to Beijing on May 29th. Then flying from Beijing to Shanghai on May 31st. Then ultimately flying from Shanghai to Tokyo on June 3rd. Am I able to travel using a 144 hour rule visa?

No. Two or more stops within Mainland China limit your stay to 24 hours. You have to get a visa or choose either Beijing or Shanghai (but not both).
