About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Tokyo - Shanghai - taipei

Will arrive shanghai 18th April from Tokyo
Departto taipei from shanghai on 19th - I believe I can get directly visa at shanghai airport right ?

Do I need to go to police for registration once I shanghai ???

You don't need a visa. If you check-in to a hotel they will register you with the police, no need for you to do anything.
