About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am planning a two week trip to Shanghai and Tokyo in September, if i arrive on Sept 6 to Shanghai

if i arrive on Sept 6 to Shanghai and plan to go to Tokyo on September 11-17. I would arrive back to Shanghai on September 17th to leave from PVG to SFO on the 19th. Is the 144 hour for each entry into the country? Am I safe in not getting a visa for this trip?

The 144-hour period resets every time you enter the region. Your itinerary is fine if Shanghai is your only stop in Mainland China.
