About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does Europe count as one region?

The definition of "country or region" is a bit unclear to me. Would it be ok to arrive to Shanghai from one European country and departure to another.

The trip I'm planning is Sweden -> Finland -> Shanghai and then Shanghai -> Russia -> Serbia -> Sweden on my way back home.

I'm trying to coordinate a business trip to Shanghai with a private trip to Serbia which would be convenient.

Would entering from Finland and departure to Russia qualify for a 144 h stay in Shanghai?

Thanks a lot in advance!

It doesn't. Each individual country is considered as an individual country and the word "region" here means Hong Kong and Macau which are considered as countries for immigration purposes. Your itinerary is fine as long as Shanghai is your only stop in Mainland China and your Shanghai-Russia flight does not stop in Finland.
