About:China Visa

Travel document instead of China visa

Why was I denied to apply for China visa because I was born in Hong Kong? I was told by the LA Consulate that I need to apply for travel document. But the form is in Chinese. I don’t read/write Chinese. What kind of proof do I need to provide to apply for Travel document? Is this the new rule?

That is not a new rule. You are a Chinese citizen by virtue of being born in Hong Kong and Chinese citizens with permanent residency in Hong Kong are required to hold either a Home Return Permit, which is a credit card-like document valid for 10 years, or a Chinese Travel Document, which is a passport-like booklet valid for two years, to visit Mainland China. This applies even if you do not hold a valid HKSAR passport.
