About:Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access

Fly from Macau instead of H.K?

As I plan to use 144hr visa in Guangzhou with prepaid ferry from Shenzhen to Macau,
and fly from there to Hainan as tickets are only $70 vs $150 from H.K, that is O.K for the 30-day visa-free?

Second, should be OK to pop into H.K and back to Shenzhen in the first 144 hours?

Yes, it's OK flying from Macau to Hainan.
You mean from Guangzhou to HK then to Shenzhen? Then you need to apply for a Shenzhen visa on arrival. The 144 has been in valid once you leave Guangdong.

$18 to go back for a 5day Shenzhen VOA is not too bad (Americans have to pay $135 though)
For the 144-hour Gongdong transit visa, is the Shenzhen Shekou Port - to Hong Kong Sheung a valid exit point? if so I may make H.K the exit and take the bus across the bridge to Macau, that in itself is an experience.
