Can my child use his Australian passport instead of Chinese travel document

My child was born in Australia and holds an Australian passport. He also had a Chinese travel document, which has now expired. My wife, who was a Chinese citizen at the time of his birth, is now an Australian citizen. We are planning a 7-day trip to China under the visa-free arrangement for Australian citizens. As we prefer to use his Australian passport, can my son enter China without any issues, or will he require a renewal of his Chinese travel document?

He can enter China and stay for 15 days with his Australian passport. It's OK to enter without the travel document if staying for no more than 15 days.
