About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Tokyo to Beijing

If I have a roundtrip ticket from Tokyo to Beijing and a one way ticket from Beijing to Seoul, can I apply 72 hour transit permit by showing my ticket from Beijing to Seol and not showing the return trip ticket to Tokyo? Instead, I will waste my ticket to Seoul and still return to Tokyo from Beijing. Is that OK?

You can enjoy free transit in Beijing twice by traveling like Tokyo-Beijing-Seoul-Beijing-Tokyo. You can show tickets from Beijing to Seol and from Beijing to Tokyo on the way back.

This plan is NOT ok. If you claim visa-free transit with your flight to Seoul, you must then fly it. If you try to return directly to Japan you will be stopped and detained and it will be a very unpleasant experience for you. You also risk a fine and a ban from travelling to China in the future. Any attempt to deceive immigration is treated as a serious transgression.

As of January 2018 there will be a 5-year ban on visa-free transit and consequences on future visa applications if you really try to deceive Chinese immigration. A 10-year visa is the only way for you to avoid all the trouble.
