Transit back through Beijing International airport

Hi - we're visiting China for three weeks, then flying to Japan. Two weeks later our return flight to Australia leaves Tokyo and transits in Beijing back to Australia. Do we need a double-entry or just a single-entry visa for our China holiday, or as we are not clearing China customs on our way home?

A single-entry visa will be fine. On the way back home, you can enjoy free transit policy in Beijing.
