Cruise to Tianjin and disembark - tour within China for 4 - 5 days - embark in Shanghai to continue

We will be on a long cruise that also visits Tianjin and Shanghai. We would like to take the opportunity to visit some remote places in China during the time the ship continues from Tianjin to Shanghai (5 days) and embark the ship in Shanghai again.
Would that qualify for the 144 hour free transit or will we need a regular tourist L?
We have been in China before and like to visit places we have not been instead of just re-visiting.
