About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hour visa to disembark cruise to go to airport

I am a United States citizen and I will be disembarking a cruise ship in Shanghai and going directly to the airport. I have a scheduled flight that same day. How do I obtain the necessary visa free visa to do this? How will I get the visa free visa before I embark my cruise?

Jerome, the procedure is quite easy because you will be granted a temporary entry permit at the cruise terminal when you disembark from the cruise ship. This permit is free of charge and it requires a short time to be obtained.

Now, it is important to know if you are eligible for visa free transit based on your itinerary. For example, your itinerary has to look like this:

Country (territory) A - China B - country (territory) C

In other words, the country or territory immediately before Shanghai has to be different than country or territory immediately after Shanghai in order to travel through Shanghai visa free based on 24 hour visa free transit. Just for example, these are some examples of eligible itineraries:

South Korea - Shanghai - Singapore
Taiwan - Shanghai - Hong Kong
Japan - Shanghai - US

So, if your itinerary satisfies this simple condition you will travel absolutely visa free.
