cruise from japan then to china

Question

I fly from US to Japan, then cruise around Japan, then to Taiwan, Hong Kong, 10 hour stop to Xiamen China, then finally Shanghai. 2 days later I fly back to US from Shanghai. Do I qualify for the 144 transit free transit? At worst case I don't get off the boat to Xiamen. Thanks!!!

Joe, you cannot apply for the 144 hr free transit in Shanghai because of the layover in Xiamen.

I'm afraid the answer is no. You are advised to apply for a visa before the trip.
