Generally speaking, you are suggested to prepare around CNY 500 per day. The cost includes hotels, transportation, scenic area tickets and foods. The consumption level of China southern coastal city is higher than the northern inland regions. Maybe your budget will be more than CNY 500 when visiting metropolis like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

You are not advised to bring much Australian dollars. It is suggested to exchange some RMB in advance and then prepare a visa card. It will bring some convenience for you.
