About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What about Zurich (Switzerland) > Shanghai > Frankfurt (Germany) for a holder of a German passport?

Chad, if you stop in Shanghai for not exceeding 144 hours, you can use the 144 hour free transit there.

I read somewhere else that the destination can't be in the same region as the origin (Europe).
I want to do something similar. Did this all work out well in practice?

Marc. Europe is a continent, each EU member state is considered a separate country for transit without visa purposes.
