About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit visa question in Shanghai

Originated in U.S. with stops in U.K. and Sweden. Will arrive Shanghai for a 36 hours stay . Can I get a VOA and return on a non stop to U.S. or do I need to go to another country and stop there before returning home to U.S.

If you fly Sweden-Shanghai (36 hours)-USA on non-stop flights with a passport from one of the 53 qualifying countries, then you don't need a Chinese visa. And by the way, it's not a VOA. It's a transit without visa. It can be helpful if you use the correct terminology when you check-in and board your flight to China.
