About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Transit through Shanghai.

Hello, I am from UK and will arrive in Shanghai by cruise ship. I will leave the ship and fly to UK the same day from Shanghai airport. Do I need a visa?

Ian, may I know which country the cruise ship will come from before entering Shanghai?
If you travel like country A rather than UK-Shanghai-UK, you can use the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai. No visa will be required then.

Thanks for your reply. The cruise will start from Singapore and the last port of call before Shanghai is Nagasaki Japan. I then fly back to UK. The flight may be the same day or possibly three days later. I have not finally decided yet but will have booked the flight before starting the cruise.

The 144-hour transit applies in this case and you can stay in Shanghai for up to 6 days.
