About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can you confirm the 72 Visa rule for Beijing. Does it start at arrival time or at midnight?

We're are scheduled to arrive at 7:50 and leave at 8:20 three days later. Will we be ok?

You will not be ok. The 72 hours starts at scheduled arrival time. You either need to change your flight or get a visa.

Update: apparently 144 hours transit without visa for Beijing is included in Timatic from today. Perhaps you will be ok.

Rob - the start time of the 72 hour free transit for Beijing changed on April 30, 2016 (see: ), so he would have been fine even before the 144 hour free transit started.

I stayed in Beijing from 10/11/2016 11:15 am to 10/14/2016 7:10pm

No, Mark, it changed in December 2017. You were permitted to stay longer than 72 hours because the time used to be counted from 00:01 on the day following your arrival. But this was changed to a strict 72 hours later in 2016.
