About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 hr Rule

So if we (US Citizens) arrive into Hong Kong, then travel to Beijing and various other destinations in China and depart to Tokyo less than 10 days and fly back to US from South Korea we will be good under the 240 hr rule?

There is no doubt, your itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. It comply with the basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit that clearly says that the immediate points before and after mainland China have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). As you can see, your itinerary has Hong Kong and Japan as its immediate points. Perfect. Also, you are allowed to travel to different parts of China while on 240 hour visa free transit, but you are advised to create an itinerary with logistics while visiting those areas because you will be almost certainly asked to tell about your intentions while in mainland China. In any case, you are free to proceed and I wish you a nice visit to China.
