About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

China visit

I need to visit China for 3 days next week. I am going from Chicago to Tokyo to shanghai. Then I will go back from shanghai to Tokyo to Chicago. I am eligible for a 72 or 144 hour free transit?

You need a visa in advance to travel that itinerary. Japan-China-Japan isn't a transit so you are obviously not eligible for free transit. You must either change your flights so that you are in transit at Shanghai or get a visa.
