us citizen 8 hr layover

I and my husband are us citizens with a layover at Beijing Capital International.  we would like to take a tour.  what do we need to do.

If you are traveling Country A - Beijing - Country B then you don't need to apply for a visa for that. You need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport, then you can leave there to explore the city. Nice trip.
