Is it possible to make a day-trip to Chengdu from Chongqing by high-speed rail ....

Day-trip to Chengdu and visit main tourist sites within 1 day?

Yes, it is possible. The high speed train between the two cities takes no more than 2 hours. You can depart in the early morning and visit Panda Base, Wuhou Temple and Jinli Ancient Street. BTW, the last train gets back at 21:40.
