About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am Italian and flying from Zurich to Nanjing via Beijing and then to Hongkong

My trip is Zurich-Beijing-Nanjing - stay in Nanjing 24 hrs and then Nanjing-Beinjing-Hongkong.

Am I eligible for the 72 hrs transit visa ?

You need a visa. You don't qualify for 72 hours free transit. Two stops in Beijing and Nanjing automatically limits you to 24 hours in transit unless you have an entry permit.
