Australian - transit in Ghangzhou 20hrs

Hi,
My family is Australia citizen but my wife is Japanese.
We are flight from Cambodia at 6pm on 9th Dec 2017 and arrive at Guangzhou at 10pm on 9th Dec.
The next flight is 6pm on 10th Dec.
The reconnecting flight wait time is 20hrs.
My family want to exit the airport and sleep in a hotel during that time.
Do we need visa?

Hi, you need a visa because Guangzhou prohibits passengers transiting in Guangzhou to leave the sterile transit zone if their transit time is under 24 hours. So if you want to exit the airport and sleep in a hotel during that time, you should apply for a visa beforehand.

I already called to the Ghangzhou immigration several times.
They said that I don't need any visa.
For other people who worry about the visa like me.
I recommend you to call the immigration and ask them direct.
