About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Tokyo - Shanghai - Taipei - Tokyo trip

I am a French-passport holder planning to fly from Tokyo to Shanghai, then the next day from Shanghai to Taipei and then back to Japan. My stay in Shanghai will be less than 72 hours. Can I make use of the 72-hour free transit ?
