If your next destination is a third country or area, you can enjoy 72/144h visa free transit, for which you don't need to hold a visa. But suppose you will go there merely for traveling and shall go back to US, a visa is needed. Under this circumstance, I suggest you book the flight ticket for the route - US - SH - HK, then US. Then you don't need a visa, because HK is regarded as an international area.

No visa is needed in your case. But you need to apply for a 72-hour free stay when you come from US, and when from UK, you also need to apply for it if you want to have another visit to the city.
