Do I qualify for the VOA or 144-hour transit visit or do I need the L visa?

Hello, my friend is travelling with my family-3 of us all have the L visa before this trip, and we plan on going to South Korea > HK > Shenzen > HK > LA. We wanted to enter Shenzhen via the fast train, but having trouble understanding which visa my friend would need to get since some of the visas do not allow me to go back to HK. Please let me know if there is any way to get a free visa!

Hi, Nicole. What's your friends' citizenship? If she/he is also America, then she can apply for the Shenzhen 5-day VOA at Luohu, Huanggang or Shekou Port at a cost of CNY 130 upon arrival. But in that case, you cannot travel by fast train, but ferry or MTR train.
