About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

sydney beijing amsterdam via shanghai for 2 hours

Hi I am flying to Beijing from Sydney for 40 hours and then onto Amsterdam with China Eastern. My flight goes via shanghai for 2.5 hours and then onto Beijing. I was going to use the 72 hour free stop over. i do not plan to leave the airport in Shanghai, will this work???

No, you won't qualify for the 72 hr free transit in Beijing because of your layover in Shanghai. You are supposed to apply for a visa for the trip.
