traveling from canada to indiai have 17 hours layover in shanghai pudong airport

Hi I'm traveling from Canada to India and I have 17 hours layover in Shanghai Pudong Airport. .can I go out and come back ? do I need transit visa for this ?If yes then how to apply as they mentioned Mailed applications are not accepted by most of Chinese embassies or consulates in overseas.Please help Regards,Harshita

Harshita, you don’t need a transit G type for that because you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai. You need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport as the instructions, then you can leave there to explore the city.
