About:China Transit Visa

traveling from Canada to India and I have 17 hours layover in Shanghai Pudong Airport

Hi

I'm traveling from Canada to India and I have 17 hours layover in Shanghai Pudong Airport. .can I go out and come back ? do I need transit visa for this ?
If yes then how to apply as they mentioned "Mailed applications are not accepted by most of Chinese embassies or consulates in overseas."
Please help

Harshita, you don’t need a transit G type for that because you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai. You need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport as the instructions, then you can leave there to explore the city.
