About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Séoul > Shanghai > Hanoi

Hi, I have a few questions to prepare my trip to Shanghai :

1) Is the "Seoul > Shanghai > Hanoi" itinerary ok to apply for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai ?

2) Can you confirm I will only need the following pieces ?
- My plane ticket from Shanghai to Hanoi + a visa for Vietnam
- My valid passport
- The arrival / departure card

3) Will the arrival / departure card be given to me by the airport staff during at the check-in or do I need to ask it to the airline company desk ?

Thank you in advance for your help.

1) The "Seoul > Shanghai > Hanoi" itinerary is ok to apply for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai.
2) Yes, you only need the above-mentioned pieces.
3) The arrival / departure card be given to you by the airport staff during at the check-in. But you need to inform the airline in advance that you want to use the free transit in Shanghai, and show the tickets and passports at the immigration counter upon arrival.

Thank you for your answer. I have now booked my tickets. But when you say "you need to inform the airline in advance that you want to use the free transit in Shanghai", how can I do that ? Do I need to call the airline on the phone or just go to their desk the day I go to the airport ? I bought my ticket online and in the process I had no chance to warn the airline that I wanted to apply for the free transit.

Once again, thank you in advance for your answer.

Your documents will be checked in Seoul at check-in and/or on boarding. You won't have a visa, so you must inform the agent that you are in transit without visa, and show them your confirmed onward ticket. There's absolutely no point in calling the airline in advance.
