From Japan to Vietnam

I have an American passport with a Japan teaching visa. I want to go to Vietnam for a trip and I have a 25 hour layover in Xiamen. Can I leave the airport and stay a night in Xiamen?

Alex, you qualify for the 72 hour free transit in Xiamen. You can leave the airport and stay a night there.
