About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Cruise from Shanghai to Sydney Australia - will we be fine?

A once in a lifetime cruise so we don't want to make any mistakes. Our flight arrives on a Monday (14:00) in Shanghai and we depart on a Princess Cruise the Friday. So by my calculations, the 144 hours begin at 0:00 Tuesday. The cruise leaves Shanghai at 18:00 Friday (which would be 114 hours) and then we are at sea (traveling) until Sunday arriving in Busan, South Korea. Leaving South Korea and back at sea for 2 full days arriving in Hong Kong, China on the Wednesday for a day. Then leaving Hong Kong that same night on route to Vietnam.

So its follows the following pattern:
-Toronto-Shanghai (stay 120 hours)
-At sea 2 days
-South Korea (10 hours)
-At sea 2 days
-Hong Kong, China (15 hours)
- At sea 1 day
- Vietnam ..... Sydney 13 days later

I don't mind doing a multi-day visa just to be safe but finding this 144 hour visa information on your page has given me some other options. Which is the safer option?

Thanks

The free 144-hour transit will definitely cover your trip to Shanghai. Chinese immigration will have no problem letting you in once you've reached Shanghai, however if you have concerns on whether you can board the flight, you also have the option of applying for a G (transit) visa at a cost.
