About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa Free if return-flight to country A is booked at later date

Hi, I am travelling from Germany to Hong-Kong and from Shanghai back to Germany which is booked in one itinerary. In-between I am also flying with two different airlines from Hong-Kong to Taipei and from Taipei to Shanghai. So I understand that I am eligible for the Free entry in Shanghai as I fly Taiwan (01.11.17) -Shanghai (04.11.17) -Germany is there a problem that flights are booked all under different itineraries and with different carriers? Moreover, our travel agent has not only booked a one-way flight from Taiwan to Shanghai but also a return flight as this was cheaper, which they said will be cancelled once we the first flight was taken. So we have another flight back from Shanghai to Taiwan on 29.11.17 , 25 days after we flew to Germany (Homecountry). Will this be a problem when applying for th free entry entry e.g. could our carrier deny the card because we have a later return flight with them? THANK YOU

Separate tickets and carriers isn't a problem. But you could face problems or be denied boarding in Taiwan because you are on a return ticket. It's possible for the airline to reprice your ticket to a one-way fare if you don't intend to take the return leg.

Yes that's what I have asked the travel agent as well but they told me it wouldn't be a problem since the return flight will be cancelled. I booked via Opodo and just saw what they did once I have received the confirmation they didn't show it was a return flight anywhere before. How would the airline know if I will not take the return fare..it is way in the future so I am more concerned about not getting free visa and being denied to enter Shanghai than to be denied boarding?

There won't be any problem once you get to Shanghai because you will show your onward ticket to Germany. The potential problem is that you will be denied boarding in Taipei because the airline will see that you don't have a visa and you are on a return ticket and not in transit.

:-( never book Opodo.uk ...All nonsense stress because of their strange booking approach without telling their customer in advance. I have the confirmed flight to GY before the fictional return flight so hopefully that is what counts...Thank you
