About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US Citizens with layover before Tokyo

Hi,
We have a 22 hr layover in Bejing.
We are coming from the US,
landing in Bejing at 5:55pm,
staying at a hotel by The Great Wall,
and should be heading back the airport by 11am the following morning, to go to Tokyo next.
I was under the impression I needed a 72 hr visa, but would a 24-hr suffice instead?

Hi, as you just transit for less than 24 hours, you can enjoy 24 hr direct transit in there. You need to apply for a free temporary stay permit when you arrive at Beijing airport. Afterwards, you can leave the airport to stay at the hotel.
